1)

 Find the first five terms of the sequence given by

a1 = 2, a2 = 10+a1 and an = 2an-1 + 6 for n > 2

Answer: 2,12,30,66,138

SOLUTION 1 :

 Given a1 = 2, a2 = 10 + a1 and  an = 2an-1+6

a1 = 2 . a2 = 10 + 2 = 12

For n = 3,

a3 = 2a3-1 + 6

= 2a2 + 6

= 2(12) + 6 = 30

For 4

= a4 = 2a4-1 + 6

= 2a3 + 6

= 2(30) + 6 = 66

 For 5

 = a5 = 2a5-1 + 6

= 2a4 + 6

= 2(66) + 6 = 138

Hence the first five terms of the sequence are 2,12,30,66,138.

2)

 Find the first five terms of the sequence given by

a1 = 2, a2 = 3+a1 and an = 2an-1 + 6 for n > 2

Answer: 2,5,16,38,82

SOLUTION 1 :

 Given a1 = 2, a2 = 3 + a1 and  an = 2an-1+6

a1 = 2 . a2 = 3 + 2 = 5

For n = 3,

a3 = 2a3-1 + 6

= 2a2 + 6

= 2(5) + 6 = 16

For 4

= a4 = 2a4-1 + 6

= 2a3 + 6

= 2(16) + 6 = 38

 For 5

 = a5 = 2a5-1 + 6

= 2a4 + 6

SOLUTION 1 :

 Given a1 = 2, a2 = 3 + a1 and  an = 2an-1+5

a1 = 2 . a2 = 3 + 2 = 5

For n = 3,

a3 = 2a3-1 + 5

= 2a2 + 5

= 2(5) + 5 = 15

For 4

= a4 = 2a4-1 + 5

= 2a3 + 5

= 2(15) + 5 = 35

 For 5

 = a5 = 2a5-1 + 5

SOLUTION 1 :

 Given a1 = 2, a2 = 6 + a1 and  an = 2an-1+6

a1 = 2 . a2 = 6 + 2 = 8

For n = 3,

a3 = 2a3-1 + 6

= 2a2 + 6

= 2(8) + 6 = 22

For 4

= a4 = 2a4-1 + 6

= 2a3 + 6

= 2(22) + 6 = 50

 For 5

 = a5 = 2a5-1 + 6

SOLUTION 1 :

 Given a1 = 2, a2 = 11 + a1 and  an = 2an-1+6

a1 = 2 . a2 = 11 + 2 = 13

For n = 3,

a3 = 2a3-1 + 6

= 2a2 + 6

= 2(13) + 6 = 32

For 4

= a4 = 2a4-1 + 6

= 2a3 + 6

= 2(32) + 6 = 70

 For 5

 = a5 = 2a5-1 + 6
